USA Water Ski has selected Zane Nicholson (Gallatin, Tenn.) and Lauren Morgan (Odessa, Fla.) as its Male and Female Athletes of the Month, respectively, for March. Nicholson and Morgan are now eligible for the United States Olympic Committee's Athlete of the Month honors.
Nicholson won the men's slalom title, scoring 4 buoys at 38 feet off, at the 2010 Junior Moomba Masters, March 3-4, in Melbourne, Australia. Nicholson’s score of 4 buoys at 38 feet off was a Junior Moomba course record. Nicholson, 15, continued his impressive skiing in the elite Moomba Masters, March 5-8, at the same site, running 2 buoys at 38 feet in the first round to advance to the 17-skier semifinals. He then scored 2 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off to earn the No. 4 seed in the finals, where he scored 1-1/2 buoys at 38 feet to finish in eighth place.
Morgan, 16, won titles in women's tricks (4,050 points) and overall (2,904.55 points) at the Junior Moomba Masters. She also finished second in jumping and 10th in slalom. It was her second consecutive overall title at the Junior Moomba Masters.
